Upcoming

Banff Center for Arts and Creativity - Fuse: Music Residency 2026

I am very excited to be joining an unbelievable faculty for an Interdisciplinary residency for collaborative performance creation at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity next spring. If you’re reading this before November 19th, 2025 you can still apply to be a part of the program here: https://www.banffcentre.ca/programs/music/fuse-music-residency-2026#how-to-apply-anchor

Unannounced collaborations

Oh I wish I could tell you! Alas there are still agreements to be negotiated, contracts to sign, project details to be worked out. Pretty soon there will be some cool “orchestral and..” project announcements to share. If you want, you can follow me on my personal instagram if you want to be the first to hear about these: @Alex.t.d.clark

Recent Collaborations

Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra

The PEISO is an exciting organization in on the Canadian Orchestral Landscape. I had the chance to play in the Viola section for the 2025-26 season opener as an extra musician. This opportunity came along with a project they are undertaking that involves digitizing their orchestra library. I was asked to plan and train staff to accomplish this undertaking and was lucky enough to find an in person week that worked for everyone that also included a concert and the universal truth that is, “we always need another viola” allowed me to really get to know the orchestra and team that supports them.

Now in his second season leading the orchestra as Music Director, Jaelem Bhate is a huge catalyst for what promises to be an exciting and growing future for the orchestra! I hope to be back there again! Kudos all around!

BANFF Center for the Creative Arts and Creativity (BISQC)

This summer I had the great pleasure of working in Banff for a couple weeks at the Banff International String Quartet Competition. I got to see (and be a small part of) an amazing team of dedicated staff and stage crew that worked to bring artists from around the world into an amazing space in an amazing part of the world to make art. I’m looking forward to returning next year as a composer for the FUSE program coming up in April/May 2026!

Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser

Daniel has conducted many of the world’s best symphony orchestras. He’s incredibly creative with his programming and artistic vision. Daniel was the subject of a CBC documentary called, Disruptor Conductor “focusing on his concerts for Neurodiverse, Prison, African Diaspora and LGBTQ2S+ populations”. He’s also an old friend who I met when we both worked at the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony 15 years ago. In 2025 I helped him with a large library project for his Thorgy project which features a drag artist and orchestra. We have several other collaborations in the works currently.

Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra

2025 brought me to Winnipeg 7 times (so far). The art and orchestra in that city make the climate well worth it. -40C is no joke! The musicians are top notch and working with them and the crew was a great experience. I look forward to further collaborations going forward.

UPDATE - I was back for an 8th trip in September to work on their season opener. Working with new staff to make sure everyone is ready to make the most of the season and keep things running smoothly. I’m very pleased to have an ongoing relationship with this great orchestra!

Ari’s Theme (Ari Kinarthy, Jeff Petry, Nathan Drillot)

Ari’s Theme is a documentary about a composer living with type-2 spinal muscular atrophy. It’s main character is also the composer of the music for the film. Ari wrote a beautiful score for the film and I got to help out by arranging the live version of his music performed at the opening night at Vancouver International Film Festival in 2024. I would work with Ari and the team again in a heartbeat!

Felix Cartal (feat. Lights) and Todor Kobakov

At the end of January 2024 we recorded string quartet arrangements by Todor Kobakov at Brian Adams’ recording studio in Vancouver. The whole thing was filmed and can be seen here. It was exciting working with some of Vancouver’s finest string players to bring these songs to life! The final product features Jennie Press, Colleen Venables, Katrina Chitty and Zoltan Rozsnyai playing with Felix and Lights.

Vancouver Canucks and Michael Pohorly

When The Vancouver Canucks (yes, the NHL hockey team) made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024 they wanted to do something Special. I teamed up with Creative Director of Game Entertainment, Michael “Poho” Pohorly to create a mixed media live string quartet performance for each home game. It was a thrill to play viola alongside a group of some of Vancouver’s best musicians (Jennie Press, Colleen Venables and Zoltan Rozsnyai) in front of the loudest 19,000 fans on the planet!

Outside the Frame, Duane Sharman

“No-one sees the natural world quite as closely as a wildlife photographer. Outside The Frame joins 6 wildlife filmmakers as they confront the fact that pristine wild spaces are vanishing in the regions that they live and work” -redlistfilms.com. I started on this project as a copyist but I’m currently adapting the music for a live show with full orchestra. With a bit of luck you’ll get to see the live version at your local music hall one day!

VIFF CFA: Miriam Cutler, Rob Calder, Tony Scudellari, Michelle Sudduth

In 2023 I joined the Composer Filmmaker Accelerator (CFA) faculty as Copyist/Librarian. The CFA is an advanced program of hands-on learning for emerging composers of music for Media. This program is part of Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) AMP which explores the essential role of music and Sound in film, television and new Media. As part of this CFA program my fellow faculty members were curator, composer and advocate Miriam Cutler, scoring session producer Michelle Sudduth and recording engineer and score mixer Damon Tedesco. I reprised this role again in 2024 and will be heading back to Vancouver once again this October for the third iteration of the program!

2025 UPDATE - Third time was just as magical as the first two. There was one complication — the VSO was on strike when we landed in Vancouver!! Luckily with some very careful and delicate work we were able to hire musicians from the symphony anyway and the recordings sound amazing! Check it out for yourself here: https://play.reelcrafter.com/DamonTedesco/VIFF_CFA2025

Said The Whale

In 2021 Vancouver based indie band Said The Whale released Dandelion an album that featured my writing for string quartet and arrangement for brass.

In 2023 Said The Whale and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra performed a full 20 song concert for which I wrote an overture and arranged music for each of the songs. This massive undertaking will remain one of my proudest artistic accomplishments for years to come.

Edwin Outwater and Peaches Christ

In 2022 I produced an orchestra show written by conductor Edwin Outwater and drag artist Peaches Christ. The show was called Symphony of Terror and was presented in October just before halloween. It featured classical examples of music used in the horror genre as well as some more modern works. The show was heavily scripted, full of interesting sound and video effects that spooked a packed house and full symphony orchestra.

Eric St. Laurent

In 2023 I wrote the music for Filmmaker Eric St. Laurent’s short film Ascention. This project allowed me to create a score of fully electronic music. A small budget production that pushed us to be creative on the music production side of things this was one of my favourite collaborations of the last year. The film will be available soon!

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra

After 8 or so years on staff with the VSO it became time to make Aseosa Productions my full time pursuit. I was lucky enough to spend some of that first year continuing to work with the symphony on a short term contract as Digital Projects Creative Lead. This work included directing cameras for livestream and simulcasts, a massive operation to implement the training and use of Arts Vision (orchestra planning software) company wide, various video recording projects both for the orchestra and the VSO School of Music and collaborating with Artistic and Marketing in a way that gave me great insight into more of the inner workings behind the scenes at a symphony.

What I Do

How i work

A composer by training I like to think of myself as a collaborative music creator. I have been called “expert generalist” when it comes to modern music presentation. I’ve spent a career building skills many different areas of music creation. I use Logic Pro X in combination with Dorico, Finale or Sibelius to create original music performance parts for concerts and recordings. The final stage of my work is usually a recording or live presentation.

About My Musical Journey

As a professional musician

I spent a decade as an Orchestra Librarian at two major orchestras in Canada. During this time I honed my skills as an arranger, conductor and concert production specialist.

I’ve worked with orchestras across the country with budgets ranging from tens of thousands to tens of millions but my passion is artistic collaboration of any size. I am happiest when I'm working on several large scale projects at once with more on the horizon!
