Composition

I love writing music. I like playing the viola and a slew of other instruments but struggled with the practice schedule required to get really good during my school years. The same was not true with composing. As an extravert there are few things that make me as excited about being alone in a room more than composing. I like writing for orchestra especially if there’s an extra element to add to the performance. Video, projection, dance, movement, lighting. Multidisciplinary creative work is the most exciting to me.

Once we’ve decided to work together we’ll talk about next steps. I love being a part of the production from the beginning to the end. For stage works I don’t usually perform unless there’s technical elements that I've created as a part of the work. For composition for film/TV or brands that require orchestra I will coordinate and conduct (if needed) any recording sessions.

Arranging

The way I look at arranging music is through a compositional lens. When I listen to music that I like I try to think of how it’s already been arranged, what the sounds in the music sound like to me and how I might replicate or change them with live orchestra.

Who are my clients for arranging music:

  • Orchestra’s looking to work with musicians outside of the classical music silo

  • Bands/Artists/Producers who want to expand their sound or create a new show

  • Ensembles who need music that someone else has written made to fit their forces

Strategy and Delivery

We will work together to plan a timeline for deliverables working backwards based on the performance/recording date or otherwise end term of the collaboration. Depending on the type of commission we’ll schedule collaboration/update meetings along the way. If you’re giving me free rein to create a piece for the stage it will be a different experience than if we’re working on a film together and then even a further difference for working with brands and teams of producers. I enjoy all of these processes and am comfortable jumping between them as needed for projects.
