Recording

These days demo recordings can sound pretty good. A lot of commercials you hear these days are sound libraries available to anyone (for a few $$$) but a live recording is still king! I enjoy working in studios with orchestra or string quartet and anything in between or beyond.

Production

My role in the studio is usually Audio Producer but sometimes Conductor if the project needs it. I’m not an audio engineer but I have enjoyed working with some really great people to get top notch recordings and I’m good at putting together a team!

Contracting

Hiring great players is the first step in having an amazing recording. Having worked with the best orchestral musicians around in my former careers with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras in Canada I have a pretty good network of fantastic players. I hire and pay through the Canadian Federation of Musicians (CFoM or AFoM) whenever possible because I believe in values and protections the union affords us musicians. This complicates the process a bit sometimes but it’s well worth the effort.
